New SUSE program focuses on enterprise Linux, software-defined storage, OpenStack cloud for channel partners

SUSE announced Tuesday advancements that make it easier for channel partners to address the key needs of their customers with the introduction of a new SUSE channel partner program.

Partners that resell open source enterprise technology from SUSE will benefit from new, improved training and certification pathways along with enhanced profitability structures that recognize and reward partners’ engagement with SUSE. The program focuses on four SUSE solution areas for channel partners: enterprise Linux, software-defined storage, OpenStack cloud and systems management.

“Enterprise IT customers need to be able to adapt quickly to changes in their markets, and so do their technology providers,” said Ronald de Jong, president of sales at SUSE. “That’s why we’re making it easier for our reseller partners to find and use the tools that will help them provide the right SUSE solutions to their customers. That’s good business for SUSE and our partners, and great for our customers, who are always the most important part of the equation.”

SUSE’s channel partner program features a streamlined online portal for partners that provides access to the latest product information and sales tools, as well as training and certification that are available online, in the classroom or via SUSE’s academy system. SUSE also provides helpdesk assistance dedicated to channel partners.

Patrick Fitzgerald, managing director of SUSE solution partner i-Layer, said, “It’s great to see SUSE supporting us not only with the great technology they have always provided, but now with a dedicated program that can only strengthen our partnership. SUSE has again stepped up its partner game. The new program is simple, as we are not forced to take SUSE’s entire stack and we can work with them at a level that suits us. All they ask is that we show we can represent their solutions (which they help us do), and in return they reward our success.”

SUSE announced last week that SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications is now available free as part of a new offering: SAP HANA, express edition. The combination of the Linux platform for SAP solutions and SAP HANA in a streamlined package is designed to allow Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X users to develop new SAP HANA-based applications more easily and conveniently.

This streamlined version of SAP HANA can be downloaded and installed on laptops, desktops or servers, either as a virtual machine based on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications or as a binary installation package for all supported Linux environments with Intel chipsets. It can also be accessed in the cloud for an additional cloud infrastructure fee.
