Apricorn enhances its Aegis Padlock SSD line to include 1TB and 2TB capacities, Aegis Configurator compatibility

Apricorn, manufacturer of software-free, 256-bit AES XTS hardware-encrypted USB drives, announced this week release of the 1TB and 2TB versions of the Aegis Padlock SSD portable drives. Like all Apricorn secure drives, these new models are completely software-free, Aegis Configurator compatible, and cross-platform compatible including Windows, Linux, Mac, Android and Chrome.

Apricorn’s software-free approach ensures that 100 percent of the data is hardware-encrypted, and 100 percent of the authentication process is executed within the device’s embedded encryption system by way of its onboard keypad.

No critical security parameters such as PINs or encryption keys are shared with the host. Additionally, software-free / self-contained authentication and encryption makes the Aegis line of secure drives compatible with virtually any OS as well as unique applications such as embedded systems and instrumentation without a keyboard.

Rugged, compact, and SSD fast, the Aegis Padlock SSD USB 3.0 Solid State Drive’s encryption module is FIPS 140-2 level 2 validated, IP56 certified resistant against water and dust, equipped with a crush-resistant aluminum enclosure, built-in USB 3.0 cable, and five storage capacities ranging from 120GB up to 2TB.

These devices provide a simple and secure method for transporting sensitive data outside the firewall or storing offline and helps companies in regulated industries adhere to their respective compliance mandates including finance, government, power & energy, legal and healthcare.

“The Aegis Padlock SSD is one of our most popular devices for those needing a tough, rugged, and fast drive, which now comes in one and two terabyte capacities and is Aegis Configurator compatible,” said Mike McCandless, vice president of sales and marketing. “It’s smaller than a deck of cards and stands up to field abuse, and really shines in extreme temperatures and harsh conditions.”

Last November, Apricorn announced that the Aegis Configurator setup application is now compatible with the entire line of Apricorn numeric keypad authenticated products. The Aegis Configurator simultaneously sets up multiple Apricorn encrypted external drives in a matter of seconds and provides the ability to create and save an infinite number of master profile settings that can be used over and over for future device configurations.

Initially, the Aegis Configurator was compatible only with the Aegis Secure Key 3z, which was released concurrently with the Configurator in January 2017.

Based on the positive response from early adopters and independent evaluators of the initial release, effective Oct. 1, 2017, all of Apricorn’s keypad-authenticated secure devices can be set up using the Aegis Configurator, saving time and money for deployments of any size.
