DDN releases four new products to accelerate HPC workloads; enable AI-ready data center



DataDirect Networks (DDN) announced on Monday several new high-performance computing (HPC) storage solutions and capabilities, which it will feature this week at the International Supercomputing event, ISC 2018, in Frankfurt, Germany.

These new solutions include two workload-accelerating, complete NVMe storage appliances, the SFA200NV and SFA400NV, which are built to meet changing business demands; enhancements to DDN’s enterprise-ready Lustre file system solution, EXAScaler 4.0, which provides advanced capabilities on top of the world’s most scalable file system; and DDN’s next-generation scale-up, scale-out hybrid flash storage appliance, the SFA7990.

As AI and deep learning applications continue to proliferate and present the data center with new workloads, DDN, with its history of solving the most intractable IO problems, is ready to assist with products to accelerate its customers’ lines of business.

DDN has enhanced its EXAScaler line with the new EXAScaler 4.0, the only enterprise-ready Lustre file system solution providing advanced capabilities for customers running technical and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads and customers supporting artificial intelligence (AI) and deep learning environments. DDN has engineered the EXAScaler 4.0 to provide best-in-class high availability, reliability and serviceability capabilities.

In addition, customers can count on DDN’s expertise to help them address the challenges of Exascale and big data analytics while minimizing costs through improved integration, monitoring and management.

EXAScaler 4.0 offers increased metadata performance, integrated monitoring capabilities and enhanced security features that allow customers to implement and deploy parallel file systems in complex, highly secure environments. The new solution also delivers simplified installation and deployment methods.

DDN builds on its decade long expertise of Lustre development, system design, implementation and support to deliver the EXAScaler line of Lustre appliances. EXAScaler combines storage architecture with the Lustre distribution, DDN integration tools, system monitoring tools and deep bench of Lustre experts across engineering, pre-sales and support. The result is a fast, advanced Lustre appliance, proven in demanding environments in HPC.

DDN has been working with the core Lustre development team and delivering Lustre solutions for 15 years. To provide end users with the best Lustre experience bar none, the company has built EXAScaler Enterprise Lustre Distribution on top of the supported community branch, hardening it for months through extensive automated testing to enhance stability, uptime, and performance. EXAScaler comes with a time-proven and tested approach to high availability in Lustre, and with an extensive set of tools that simplify deployment, maintenance, and support.

DDN is a very active member of the Lustre community and has contributed many performance, scalability and management features including development or lead test owner on all major features in the recent Lustre 2.10 release. DDN contributes all core Lustre enhancements to the community and has never forked Lustre. As the company can incorporate them in its release faster, DDN developed features are often available to DDN customers exclusively for a period of time before they are incorporated into the main branch.

Customers can start with as small as a few terabytes and grow seamlessly to multi-petabyte capacity. The SFA7990 appliance can also be configured with embedded high-performance parallel file systems in an integrated package. DDN’s SFA7990 EXAScaler and GRIDScaler solutions provide a modular approach to building the most capable platforms for parallel file storage systems.
