SplashData of Silicon Valley, California has enhanced the SplashID application to allow corporate users to encrypt, store and manage critical passwords, account information and logins, the company said last week. The SplashID application allows each employee of the enterprise to have a personal encrypted data vault which is accessible anywhere and at any time, it added.
The new edition of SplashID can help enterprises meet compliance requirements for corporate internal controls under Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) standards, according to SplashData.
The SplashID enterprise and government edition features 256-bit Blowfish encryption, a masking feature and a random password generator, which allow employees to securely store user names, passwords, filenames and other confidential information on desktop and notebook computers as well as smartphones and PDAs, including Treo, BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices, SplashData said.
It is mandatory for government agencies and enterprises to have specialized security requirements because of the sensitivity of data and confidential information that it handles, the company said. Organizations are forced to request employees to choose complex passwords that have to be changed regularly, thus making it difficult to remember various logins and their passwords. This system can still create substantial security risks, as often users use variations of the same password, or write it down at an unprotected location. The SplashID enterprise and government edition allows users to keep passwords, logins, and other sensitive information in a secure location that is easy to access at work, home, and while traveling, the company said.
The deployment of the SplashID application can be tailored to match the organization's desktop and mobile platform standards. Companies can also add their own branding to the application's screens, SplashData said.
Enterprise organizations like Lawrence Livermore National Labs of Livermore, California, NetBank of Alpharetta , Georgia and the Getty Foundation of Los Angeles, California have made the new SplashID enterprise and government edition available to its employees.
SplashData currently has over 500,000 users of its consumer versions of the SplashID application, available on Windows, Mac OS, Palm OS, Windows Mobile Pocket PC and smartphone, Symbian Series 60, Symbian UIQ and BlackBerry
The SplashID enterprise and government edition is now available on a site license basis or per-seat basis with pricing dependent on the size of the deployment, according to the company. Smaller organizations can also purchase five license package of SplashID for US$129.95, and a ten license package for $219.95.
